South Shields Women debutant Connie Graham says she was “pleased” to get a “good goal” on Friday night.
Her 54th-minute volley halved the deficit against Ponteland United Women but it wasn’t enough to instigate a comeback as the lasses narrowly lost 2-1.
Despite the final result, Graham was happy to get on the scoresheet in her first outing in claret and blue.
“I’m pleased that I was able to get a good goal on my debut for the club,” she admitted.
That can only help the new arrival to settle in, with Graham feeling warm about the reception she has received from the group so far.
“I’m settling into the club great as all the girls are really kind and welcoming,” she added.
There were positives to take from the game: a heavy spell of chances after that goal saw the Mariners come close countless times but some superb shot-stopping from Ponteland United 'keeper Chloe Jackson kept the visitors ahead.
Graham said: “The result was unfortunate and I think we deserved more as all the girls played really well.”
It gives the team the opportunity to respond this Sunday when they travel to Alnwick Town Ladies, who they knocked out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup earlier this season in dramatic fashion.
If that game is anything to go by, supporters are in for a treat against the NERWFL Premier Division's fourth-placed side.
“I think we are all looking forward to playing Alnwick next week as it will be a good challenge for us all,” Graham stated after the game.
Full match details for our visit to Alnwick Town will be shared on our social media pages shortly.
