SSFC Women host Alnwick Town in first home game of 2025

South Shields Women will want to get back to winning ways when they host Alnwick Town Ladies this Sunday (2pm kick-off).
The Mariners were left frustrated despite taking the lead last time out against Ponteland United Women, as they fell to a 4-1 defeat which started the year on a low note.
However there are plenty of opportunities ahead for the team to make something out of the season, with this weekend’s game being the perfect chance to get back at it.
Alnwick sit third in the NERWFL Premier Division table with 18 points after 10 games, although they haven’t been in action since before the Christmas break.
After last week’s defeat, Shields find themselves seventh after eight games played, but they could find themselves as high as fourth depending on how well results go for them on Sunday.
The lasses won both matches against Alnwick in the league last season, which included a memorable night under the 1st Cloud Arena floodlights back in May, courtesy of an Ellie White brace and Natalie May’s first goal of the season.

She said: “The team have been working extremely hard in training and have proved that with the right intensity we can work hard and win the toughest challenges that we face.
“I am feeling confident for the game on Sunday because I know everyone has put in so much effort.
“I know that everybody was a little bit disheartened about the result against Ponteland but with the correct mindset and the togetherness of the team I believe that we will put up a fight to win.”
