Sam Ashford signs for the Mariners

We are delighted to announce the signing of experienced forward Sam Ashford.

Ashford joins South Shields FC following a spell at National League side Woking, also spending time on loan at AFC Totton and Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The 30-year-old started his career with Tottenham Hotspur before joining Maldon & Tiptree in 2014, which would then spiral into an impressive career in non-league football, as well as stints in the EFL with Crawley Town and Scottish Championship with Ayr United.

A forward by trade, Ashford has a consistent goalscoring record at most clubs that he has played for, scoring ten goals at both Witham Town and Hemel Hempstead Town, and most recently scoring seven for Wealdstone in the National League.

Ashford added:

"I spoke to Mike, and for me, he reiterated everything; his philosophy was very similar, and the way he came across made me excited to be here. I want to play for him just as much. For me, after talking to him, it was a bit of a no-brainer. I'm just really looking forward to it now."

Welcome to the Mariners, Sam!
