MATCH PREVIEW: AFC Fylde (H)

Tuesday night sees Ian Watson’s Mariners welcome Craig Mahon’s AFC Fylde to the 1st Cloud Arena for one of the most anticipated clashes in the season between the two sides top of the Enterprise National League North.

South Shields go into the game looking to regain the top spot, hoping to replicate their last performance against the Coasters.

The Mariners come into the midweek clash pumped with adrenaline, having astonishingly slotted three goals past Peterborough Sports in three minutes on Saturday.

Watson’s men will be hoping to take this ruthless attacking nature into their biggest game of the season.

The visitors currently lead the league with 75 points from 33 games, a win on Tuesday night for the Coasters, could be crucial for their promotion hopes as a win against Watson’s chasing Mariners would leave them four points clear.

Fylde’s danger man — No doubt, will be Danny Ormerod. Ormerod has bagged himself 25 goals in the league this season with only two being from the penalty spot. The 19 year-old picked up the second goal on Saturday against Curzon Ashton and will be looking to get on the scoresheet once more on Tuesday night.

The reverse fixture saw Shields come out on top in an epic 4-2 victory away from home. The Mariners conceded early however, a first-half brace from Cedwyn Scott put Shields ahead before the break. It took only three minutes into the second-half the hosts nabbed the equaliser, however that resilient attitude from Shields showed, as they got the third and fourth goals through Oliver Bainbridge and Caden Kelly.

Shields last outing saw an impressive second-half performance with three goals coming in the second-half - two coming from their danger-man and top scorer Paul Blackett who will seek to pick up his 21st in the league this season on Tuesday night.
