Bouggess: SSFC Women "worked really hard to earn" Wallsend BC victory

Madison Bouggess celebrated scoring for the second week running in South Shields Women's 5-3 win away to Wallsend BC Women.

Her 45th minute goal came at the perfect time for the lasses, who went into the break with the score at 2-2, and it could have helped to spur on a more dominant second-half display.

Sunday's result moves Shields up to seventh place in the NERWFL Premier Division ahead of the mid-season break, with 10 points gained from seven matches so far.

“I’m so happy we were able to finish off with a win going into the new year!” the South Shields FC Women’s International Academy star said.

“We worked really hard to earn that win, and not every moment was perfect, but the good moments outweighed the bad.

“That is why all five of those goals were absolutely earned and so was the win.”

It has been a long journey for Bouggess to get to this point, after spending much of the season on the sidelines, and she insists being with the First Team over recent weeks has been an enjoyable experience so far.

She continued: “I was definitely a little nervous when I first got called up, but after 10 months of ACL rehab, I was mostly grateful that all the hard work had paid off.

“Additionally, the girls in the First Team have been incredibly welcoming and encouraging, which made the transition much easier.

“To top it all off, contributing with two goals and an assist feels amazing.

“It is nice to feel like I am finally starting to contribute to the team.”

Tianna Hill netted three goals and won the Player of the Match award in the process, a testament to someone Bouggess feels is such an important part of the team.

“I am ecstatic for T!” she exclaimed.

“She has been such a hard working and consistent player for the First Team, and it’s been really great getting to play with her up top.

“I’m expecting 10 more goals from T in the new year!”

Bouggess is looking forward to the incoming winter break as she finished with a message of gratitude for the experiences gained up to this point.

“I’ve been feeling really grateful to be playing football in England alongside such driven and confident young women,” she finished.

“Over the break, I plan to rest, spend time with family, and keep working on my game so I can come back even better and be the best teammate possible for my team and coaches.

“Happy holidays!”
