Jen Wootten has urged her South Shields Women teammates to “bounce back stronger” after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Spennymoor Town Ladies.
The Mariners took the lead in the 68th minute through captain Becki McMahon, before a quickfire double in the 78th and 80th minutes turned the game on its head.
It came as a particularly harsh blow according to Wootten, who felt the lasses had performed well in the circumstances, but nevertheless she recognised the need to learn from the result.
“I think we were the dominant side and played some good football on a difficult surface, so it’s frustrating to lose when you feel you’re the better team,” she said.
“They took advantage of our mistakes so we have to put those things right and bounce back stronger.”
One thing of note from a Shields perspective was that McMahon scored her third goal in only two matches, following her brace against Sunderland West End Ladies previously.
Wootten was full of praise for the defender, who managed to score a well-timed header during the second-half.
She said: “It’s great seeing Becki score!
“It’s always good seeing her get her reward for working hard and pushing on up the pitch.”
Wootten also highlighted some positive aspects and lessons for the team to take into future games.
“I think we can take away positives from passages of play where we dominated in possession and the team worked hard," the midfielder continued.
“There’s just some things that need tightening up so we don’t get caught in those vulnerable positions.
“However, we won’t dwell on it and we will fight again next weekend.”
The lasses visit Sunderland West End next - a team they thrashed 6-1 less than a fortnight ago - in the hopes of securing three lucrative points in the NERWFL Premier Division.
She finished: “We will take the positives from our last few games where we’ve shown dominance against teams, especially in the final third.
“It’s always a good match against West End so everyone is up for it.”
Full match details for our game this weekend will be shared in due course.

Hey all, UK player here. A funny thing happened last week: I was watching a football stream and noticed a banner during halftime. Normally I ignore those, but this one made me curious enough to type it in later. After browsing for a bit, I reached spinpin.org.uk and ended up spending nearly an hour reading through different parts of the site. What I appreciated was the straightforward layout and the little details about game choices. I didn’t expect much, but after trying a couple of rounds later that night, I managed to hit a decent win.
I was planning a weekend trip in ca and a travel forum recommended a casino with stunning waterfront views, which led me to 888 Casino. I was intrigued by the combination of a modern gaming floor and historical charm. Browsing the site, I liked how they clearly listed the variety of games, from pokies to table games, and even live events. The navigation made planning my visit easy, and I felt confident I’d have an entertaining experience.
Hey all! Just wanted to share—my brother recommended 1red casino, and I ended up spending a couple of evenings exploring it. The game selection is solid, and navigating through it is easy, especially from a UK perspective. I found myself trying new games I normally wouldn’t, and the experience was smooth enough to keep me coming back. It’s nice to have an online space where you can play, relax, and experiment a little without feeling overwhelmed. I actually enjoy logging in now.
I’ve been testing some web assembly modules on my MacBook while sitting in a Costa in Manchester. I noticed that the zuluspins.org.uk architecture handles script execution much better than older platforms I've used. Even with the public Wi-Fi throttling, the latency during asset calls was minimal. It’s rare to see such optimized DOM rendering on a gaming site these days.
Good evening all, UK-based player here. A colleague mentioned katana spin casino during a lunch break, saying it ran smoothly on mobile. Later that evening, I signed up to see for myself. I liked how clearly the promotions were explained and how easy it was to navigate. After a slow start and several small losses, one lucky sequence of spins turned everything around for me.
