SSFC Women travel to Washington FC in third pre-season friendly

South Shields Women visit Washington FC Women this Sunday in what will be their third game of pre-season.

It has been a difficult start for the lasses so far, with defeats against both Chester-le-Street Town Ladies and Durham PGA over the past week, but this weekend gives the team another opportunity to try and put things right.

The two teams faced each other during pre-season last year - Annece Legg scored the winner for Shields in the 84th minute as the Mariners narrowly earned a 1-0 win on the road.

Washington FC were last in action last Sunday, when they lost 5-0 to Alnwick Town Ladies.

Kennedy Green, who played for Washington FC last season, is excited about the opportunity to face her old team again.

She told us: “I’m really looking forward to heading back to Washington for Sunday’s game. 

“Last year was a great experience, and their fans and team always bring such a warm, competitive spirit. 

“For us at South Shields, it’s another chance to keep building on the hard work we’ve been putting in and show the progress we’re making as a squad. 

“Can’t wait for it!”
