SSFC Women return to Downhill Hub to host Alnwick Town

South Shields Women return to Downhill Hub this Sunday for their penultimate home game in the NERWFL Premier Division against Alnwick Town Ladies (2:30pm kick-off).

The lasses have just three games to contend with before the league season is complete, and first up are an Alnwick Town side where entertainment has certainly been provided thus far.

In the previous two meetings, the Mariners have equalised late on - in the 93rd minute back in September, and then in the 89th minute a month ago.

Three points for the visitors could help them secure a hold onto third place, while for Shields a win is a must if they are to challenge the top five spots in their remaining fixtures.

The Mariners lost 4-0 to title-hunting Thornaby FC Women last time out, and Alnwick defeated Ossett United Women - Shields’ opponents next week - 3-1 most recently.

Last time we met

Relive the key moments from our last meeting, a 2-2 draw at a very windy Greensfield.

Alex and Ryan’s thoughts

We caught up with First Team Head Coach Alex Miller, as well as Reserve Team Head Coach Ryan Young, ahead of this weekend’s games - take a look at their previews here.

Alena’s thoughts

Alena Miller spoke to us this week in preparation for our hosting of Alnwick Town - read what she had to say here.

She said: “Last Sunday wasn’t the result we wanted, but we’ve been working hard this week, and are ready to take what we’ve learned into Sunday.

“That, along with the grit and determination that kept us in our last matches against Alnwick, should make for an exciting game!”

Kick-off at Downhill Hub (SR5 4BB) is at 2:30pm this Sunday, April 19th.

While entry is free, supporters will need to register for a Leisure United account and scan the generated QR code to access the facilities on the day.

Emily O’Mara said: “Really looking forward to this weekend - It will be good to get more wins towards the end of the season that I feel we can really achieve.”

I kept seeing people mention eggy car, so I gave it a try—now I get the hype. It’s one of those games where you fail a lot, but you instantly want another run.

The Mariners' previous meetings with Alnwick Town have indeed been entertaining, with late equalisers a notable feature, will this trend continue on Sunday at Downhill Hub?

I was trying to remove background from logo without using heavy software, and this kind of solution feels really convenient.

It keeps the edges clean and doesn’t distort the design.

Makes quick edits much easier for everyday use.

I ended up reading a thread that followed this same grounded style, and what stood out was how focused it was on real usage rather than opinions. Users compared how platforms behave over time—navigation flow, readability, and whether everything feels predictable during extended sessions. Plinko Aztec was referenced once in that context, almost like a side note. That kind of inclusion blends naturally into the conversation, making it feel balanced and closer to authentic forum wisdom.

Usually, I am quite skeptical of any platform that promises too much in its flashy advertising banners. I preferred the subtle approach I found at https://www.cheshirecountyshow.org.uk/ while browsing for something new in the United Kingdom last weekend. The interface is very professional and avoids the typical aggressive marketing tactics seen elsewhere. It’s a refreshing change of pace for anyone who just wants to play a few rounds in a quiet, stable environment.
