South Shields Women fell to a 4-1 defeat at home to Alnwick Town Ladies on Sunday.
The Mariners' afternoon began emphatically as they crafted multiple opportunities to go ahead inside the first-half.
Despite this strong start, and valiant performance throughout both halves of football, the hosts failed to get the breakthrough goal.
Unfortunately for them, it was the visitors who netted the opener in the 49th minute thanks to Ellie White.
Two more goals then came for Alnwick Town; Sophie Greener and Chloe Young got themselves on the scoresheet in the 54th and 59th minutes.
However, the resilient Mariners showcased that they were still confident they could get one back.
That is exactly what they did - and what a goal it was.
The Mariners’ majestic Madison Bouggess thundered one in from distance in the 73rd minute.
However, with just three minutes left on the clock, Greener picked up her second of the game to win the NERWFL Premier Division clash for Alnwick Town.
Ahead of Sunday’s clash, the hosts were confident, knowing that they were unbeaten in their last two meetings.
They provided absolute spectacles, ones which saw Shields equalise late on, on both occasions.
Sunday afternoon’s clash began fantastically for the Mariners, with them crafting a chance in the opening seconds.
A loose ball allowed for Bouggess to pick up the scraps, before unleashing a venomous strike that flew just wide of Ruby James’ goal.
Moments later, Shields came close again, Bouggess once more at the heart of the move.
The forward picked out Eva McDonald with a wonderful through ball, who then took the ball in her stride and fired at James, however, the shot-stopper pulled off the save.
Just before the hour-mark, Bouggess came inches away from opening the deadlock.
Jen Wootten delivered an unbelievable ball over the top which Bouggess cleverly latched onto, before rounding James.
Her finish rippled into the side netting, only narrowly missing the target.
The second-half began, and unfortunately for the hosts, it took just four minutes before Alnwick Town nicked the opener.
White was the one who slotted in the first goal after a slick cutback.
Fast forward 10 minutes on the clock and the visitors, who were once 1-0 up, were now three up, through Greener and Young's finishes.
Soon after, Alex Miller’s valiant Mariners showcased their fighting spirit, and of course the goalscorer was Bouggess.
She looked forward, and unleashed nothing short of an unstoppable strike, which flew into the back of James' net.
Unfortunately, this wasn’t the last of the goals, as with three minutes left on the clock, Greener netted the visitors' fourth of the afternoon.
The lasses now look to their next outing at home to Ossett United Women, their final home game in the league.

Tough result yesterday, the 4-1 scoreline definitely doesn't reflect the effort the lasses put in on the pitch. It’s a long season, and setbacks are just part of the journey to coming back stronger. Honestly, after a frustrating match like that, I usually spend a few minutes on Canuckle online just to take my mind off things for a bit.
I kept seeing people mention eggy car, so I gave it a try—now I get the hype. It’s one of those games where you fail a lot, but you instantly want another run.
I came across it while browsing a UK forum where people were discussing different ways to play without overcomplicating things. One user mentioned trying something new after getting tired of slow platforms, so I followed the suggestion. While exploring, I opened Trustly Casino and liked how quickly everything loaded. I didn’t have to think much about where to go next. My first few rounds were a bit unlucky, but I stuck around and eventually hit a win that covered my losses and left me slightly ahead, which felt pretty satisfying.
