South Shields began 2023 with derby delight as Tom Broadbent's header late in the first half was enough to seal a hard-fought win at Morpeth Town.
Broadbent netted for the second successive match to earn what were a deserved three points for the Mariners in front of a huge away support.
The Highwaymen attempted to put their visitors under pressure in the closing stages but Shields saw the game out well, maintaining their three-point lead at the top of the Pitching In Northern Premier League.
