This Saturday sees Ian Watson’s Mariners travel to Lincoln Road to take on Phil Brown’s Turbines in their penultimate fixture before a crunch clash with leaders of the Enterprise National League North, AFC Fylde.
The last time the teams met was in the middle of December when the Mariners came out victors in a 2-1 home triumph in which top scorer Paul Blackett was on the scoresheet and Oliver Bainbridge bagged the winner.
Brown’s Turbines sit at 20th place in the league, just one point ahead of the relegation places, — securing points against Ian Watson’s Mariners would further increase the likelihood of their survival in the National League North.
If the hosts are to take anything from the game, their most likely source of a goal would come from their danger-man Luca Miller. Miller is on twelve goals this season and has scored two goals in his last appearances for the club.
Although these results have ultimately seen Peterborough defeated the attacker is in terrific form. So too Miller in the reverse fixture picked up what turned out to be a consolation goal.
The travelling Mariners currently sit second place in the league with 71 points, one behind current leaders AFC Fylde.
The message from Watson will be clear - focus solely on Saturday, then Fylde. His side must pick up the three points on Saturday to give them the confidence they need before Tuesday’s game of the season.
On Tuesday the visitors picked up a further three points in a decisive 3-1 victory against Worksop Town, with the returning Blackett picking up a brace and substitute Lennon Wheeldon rounding the game off in the 87th minute.
If the Mariners are to pick up the much-needed three points on Saturday, their path to victory could come from those dangerous attackers.
