Saturday sees the Mariners take the trip to the MGroup Stadium to take on Ross Jenkins’ Oxford City in a clash that could see the hosts climb out of the relegation zone or the visitors edge closer to promotion.
The tie will see Ian Watson’s Mariners look to pick up yet another win in the Enterprise National League North, taking their points tally to 66 from 29 games — this too would be the Mariners 20th league win of the season.
Oxford City currently sit in 21st place with a points tally of 22 from 28 games; however, relegation-placed Hereford, Alfreton Town and Leamington have games in hand on the Hoops, so Jenkin’s side cannot afford to drop a further three points this weekend.
Jenkins will be hoping their man in form, Ewan Clark, can be the one to aid the hosts to a well-needed victory. Clark has two goals in his last three appearances, two of the goals being in crucial wins against Buxton and AFC Fylde.
The reverse fixture took place in November where at the 1st Cloud Arena, Mariners fans got to see their side hit Oxford for four, with goals coming from Paul Blackett, Dillon Morse, Cedwyn Scott and Will Jenkins.
The travelling Mariners will be looking at their new star boy Sonny Finch as their path to a victory on Saturday, with the new signing bagging himself two goals and one assist in his first three appearances, the latest of which came in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Marine Travel Arena.
