The Mariners are looking to bounce back after their first loss of the new year against Boston United.
Elliott Dickman’s side went into Saturday’s fixture full of confidence against a Boston side who had then only won one of their last five fixtures. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Shield’s Day, ex-Darlington striker Jacob Hazel opened the scoring in the 11th minute and set the theme of the match.
All eyes are now on Tuesday night’s fixture when South Shields travel down to Hereford in the national league north. Hereford FC are currently 7th in the table and lost their last league outing 2-0 to Darlington on Saturday.
Tuesday’s oppositions are not in the best of form and have only won one of their last five league fixtures with their last win, not unlike South Shields, coming last Tuesday in a 1-0 win over Rushall Olympic.
Well-travelled Adam Rooney could be the man to look out for regardless of how his campaign has gone so far. He only has 2 goals in the league this year but the ex-Aberdeen striker is always a threat in front of goal.
Elliott's thoughts
Elliott Dickman will no doubt be looking ahead at this next match with a must win attitude. The loss against Boston will be hard to take given how close the two teams are in the league table.
Now facing another play-off rival Shields must do better if they have any hope of securing a play off spot on the first try.
Although a result will be expected he still remains adamant that “Every game is a really tough game with its own challenges”. Adding that “Weve still got a lot of games to play so there are still a lot of opportunities to pick up points between now and the end of the campaign”.
Team news
Blair Adams went off in his last fixture against Boston United late in the first half, the extent of the injury is unknown and he remains a doubt for Tuesday.
