This Saturday the Enterprise National League North leaders South Shields, take the trip to the MandM Edgar Street Stadium as they search for their 25th win in the league this season in a clash against Aaron Downe’s Bulls.
Ian Watson’s Mariners go into the fixture looking to get back to winning ways following Tuesday nights’ 1-1 draw away to Chorley FC.
Despite the visitors missing out on two points, Watson’s side struck home their 80th league goal of the season and kept their current undefeated streak intact, which crept to a staggering 16 games.
The travelling league leaders - if they are to keep this relentless streak going, will surely look to rely on their unstoppable attacking duo of Sonny Finch and Paul Blackett. Finch bagged the Mariners opener on Tuesday night as well as having 12 goals and assists in his first 11 appearances with the club.
And talisman Blackett looks to continue his fine goalscoring form of late. A goal against the Bulls on Saturday would see the striker reach 23 in the league this season, with eight goals in his last seven appearances.
The hosts on the other hand are clawing their way out of the relegation places. Currently they sit 21st in the league, a singular point would take them out of the relegation places.
Newly-appointed manager Downe’s has had a rather impressive start with the Bulls since his arrival in February, with his side picking up 13 points out of a possible 18, scoring 15 goals in the process.
If Downe’s side are to take points from the league leaders - their key to victory could come through George Munday. The attacker picked up a hat-trick in Hereford’s last outing in their 5-1 demolition of Leamington FC. The hosts then will be looking for a similar performance from him on Saturday.
South Shields do have an advantage over the bulls, that being they triumphed to a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
Watson will hope then that his side can replicate a similar performance to the last time the sides met, while also hoping his star-man Finch can fire away once more, as he did in the Mariners last outing.
