Match Preview: Darlington (H)

Monday night sees Ian Watson’s Mariners back at the 1st Cloud Arena as they take on Steve Watson’s play-off-chasing Darlington.

The midweek clash will see the Mariners take on their second fixture in just three days - one which they hope can take their points tally to a whopping 91 for the season.

The hosts, too, come into the tie having taken seven points from a possible nine in their last three outings and having the mental advantage over the visitors as they were victorious at Blackwell Meadows back in December.

The reverse fixture saw Shields triumph to a 2-1 win, in which the Mariners two ferocious frontmen, Lennon Wheeldon and Paul Blackett, bag a goal each allowing for a travel back to South Tyneside with the three points.

For the visitors however, they do not come into the game bubbling with confidence. As their latest three games in the Enterprise National League North have seen them concede eight goals and pick up zero points.

Darlington then, with a point to prove must travel to the 1st Cloud Arena looking for nothing more - than an upset to Watson's title challenging Shields’.

One-to-watch

If the hosts are to cause any danger on the hosts' home soil, Darlington’s danger man, Cedric Main, could be pivotal in doing so. Main, who scored in the 98th minute in the reverse fixture, has picked up 18 league goals this season. The Mariners then need to pay strong attention to Darlington’s Dutchman on Monday night.
