Match Preview: Bishop's Stortford vs South Shields

South Shields travel to Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday for their latest assignment in Vanarama National League North (7.45pm kick-off).

The match was originally scheduled to take place in early December before being postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Despite the freezing temperatures in the Bishop's Stortford area, the playing surface is understood to have no problems and the game is expected to go ahead as planned.

Shields drew 1-1 with Warrington Town on Saturday and are 11th in the table, five points short of the play-off positions.

Bishop's Stortford are bottom of the standings on 17 points, and are in need of victories as they attempt to pull off a great escape from relegation in the second half of 2023-24.

Elliott's thoughts

Saturday's game against Warrington was the second in charge for the interim management team of Elliott Dickman and Lee Picton.

Dickman is now focused on a return to winning ways for the Mariners.

He said: "We're expecting a really good, solid performance, building on what we've done in the last two games.

"It's a test of character, and we need to show resilience and togetherness as a group.

"There were bits of Saturday's match that we were really pleased with and we created some decent opportunities.

"We felt we possibly should have got a little bit more out of the game, but there were lots of encouraging signs and plenty to build on."

Team news

Shields remain without forward Joao Gomes and are expected to also be missing defender Dillon Morse.
