This Saturday South Shields host Alfreton Town, a clash which sees the Mariners look to close the distance on 1st placed AFC Fylde while the travelling reds look to climb out of the relegation places.
The hosts however, are fresh off the back of an outstanding 4-1 home victory against play-off contenders Merthyr Town and hope to keep this winning adrenaline when they face up against Jake Buxton’s men on Saturday.
A win too, could see the Mariners re-gain the top spot by late Saturday evening in the Enterprise National League North.
If the Mariners are to win, it is possible their likely source of a goal and key to victory would come through the likes of Sonny Finch, who netted an outrageously impressive solo goal last Saturday.
Comparatively, the visitors have picked up just four points from a maximum of 15 in their last five games - now then is the time for Buxton’s men to pick up a string of results with the visitors having just eight games left in their season.
Alfreton currently sit 23rd in the league, claiming 37 points from 38 games.
One-to-watch
Although the visitors come into the game with a poor record the Mariners must still keep an eye on Alfreton’s potential danger man, Lewis Salmon.
Salmon has netted twice in his last four appearances and if the reds are to claw their way out of the relegation places with a result on Saturday, the striker could be one of their paths in doing so.
Last time the sides met
The Mariners however do have an advantage over the visitors, that being that they have already beaten the reds this season in a 2-0 smash-and-grab finish.
