PREVIEW

On Saturday, Ian Watson’s Mariners welcome Kevin Wilkin’s Telford to the 1st Cloud Arena for a well-anticipated clash - the first home game for Watson’s men in four weeks.

South Shields go into the game looking to pick up another win, but crucially stretch their one-point lead on second-place AFC Fylde. The Mariners come into the weekend tie champing at the bit, eager to play football - and hopefully for their fans, secure themselves another win.

The visitors sit in seventh place in the Enterprise National League North gaining 48 points from 31 games, a win on Saturday for the Bucks, would be pivotal for Wilkin’s side in their hopes of securing a play-off position come the end of the campaign.

Watson’s Mariners will be keeping an eye on Telford superstar - and top scorer, Matt Stenson, who is undoubtedly the visitors' danger man. Stenson has picked up 16 goals so far this campaign with two in his last two outings.

The reverse fixture saw the teams share the spoils in a 1-1 draw, an astonishing game which had two goals in the final six minutes. Telford fans thought that Jordan Piggott’s 84th minute goal was enough to seal the three points, however Cedwyn Scott 88th minute strike meant the sides would take a point each.

The league leaders will look to their in-form superstar Cedwyn Scott as one of their many paths to victory. In Shields’ last outing Scott picked up a second-half brace which led the Mariners to a 3-1 triumph at the MGroup stadium against Oxford City.

Watson will be hoping that his experienced and firing centre-forward can keep the goals flowing and inspire yet another victory.
