Killeen: SSFC Women "focused on learning" from Moors defeat

ree

Faye Killeen has said that her South Shields Women teammates are “focused on learning” from Sunday’s opening day defeat to Spennymoor Town Ladies.

The forward spoke following the Mariners’ 7-1 loss in the NERWFL Premier Division and while the result itself suggested areas of improvement, the new player highlighted some positives to take from it as well.

“It was definitely a tough start,” she said.

“The scoreline does reflect areas we need to improve on, but there were positives too.

“We created chances and showed glimpses of what we’re capable of.

“We’re focused on learning from the game and bouncing back stronger, hoping to take positives into the next game.”

Killeen made her competitive debut for the club yesterday and although that was a highlight to take from the afternoon, it doesn’t take away from the fact that three points could have made it sweeter.

She continued: “Yes, I was happy to finally make my competitive debut in this team and excited for where this could take me - all the girls have been really welcoming which has helped me a lot too.

“Although it’s been a personal milestone, a win would have been more important.”

The lasses quickly turn their focus to this week’s game, a home match against Sunderland West End Ladies.

“I’m looking forward to this week,” Killeen added, “putting the weekend behind us and kick-starting the season properly.

“Every game is a fresh opportunity and I’m looking forward to putting things right with a win and a good performance, which we have shown we can do!”

Home support can make a huge difference and that isn’t something which is lost on the team.

She finished: “I got an experience of the home stadium and supporters last week after our win.

“I’m excited to get back on that pitch again in front of them, and I think having our supporters there really helps to lift the energy and performance of us all.

“Hopefully we can use our home advantage and turn things around for them.”

Details for this Sunday’s NERWFL Premier Division clash will be shared shortly.
