Faye Killeen has spoken of her delight following South Shields Women’s dominant 4-0 win against Washington FC Women in the DCFA Women’s Challenge Cup.
The lasses put in a confident display to comfortably see themselves through to the Quarter-Final, against a resolute Washington side who tried to make things tough.
“I’m really happy with the team’s performance [on Sunday],” she reflected following the game.
“It was nice to see how we all worked together and to see the hard work paying off.”
Shields named a smaller squad due to illness within the group and other commitments, meaning Killeen was moved into centre midfield for the first time, a “challenge” she seemed to relish.
That experience has given her plenty of lessons to learn from heading into the future.
She continued: “I definitely think I’m growing in confidence with every game, especially after moving into centre midfield for the first time.
“I think it was a challenge but it was good to be more involved in the game and helping to link up play.
“I do still have areas of improvement and I am excited to keep gaining more experience.”
The team has had a stunning few weeks results-wise, following the win in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Third Round Qualifying against Fleetwood Town Wrens, in addition to Sunday’s County Cup victory.
When asked whether that good run of form, which stretched back to the wins against Wallsend BC Women and Alnwick Town Ladies prior, has helped to prolong the team’s good fortunes, Killeen responded emphatically.
“Yeah, definitely,” she agreed.
“I think the run of good results has given us all a boost of confidence and the positive energy is really helping us work hard in training to get these results.”
This weekend, Killeen and the lasses have the chance to create more FA Cup history when they host AFC Fylde Women - who are currently unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions.
“I’m really looking forward to the match and it’s so exciting having the chance to play in the FA Cup,” she finished.
“I think we are all looking forward to getting out there and I think it will be a good game against a strong team.”
