Faye Killeen marked her return from injury with a goal for South Shields Women in their 5-0 demolition of Brunsmeer Athletic Women at the weekend.
It was the best start imaginable to the new year for the lasses, who had waited a month for some action - but it was even longer for Killeen who had nursed a minor injury since November.
“I couldn’t wait to be back,” she said after the match.
“I felt like I had missed so much, so it was definitely nice to be playing again after the long break.
“I really missed playing with everyone and being part of the team.”
Kelsi Hoot launched a rifling shot into the corner early doors to give the Mariners the lead, before Madison Bouggess rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net shortly before the break.
It was a performance Killeen was “buzzing” with and a fair reflection of the “hard work” put into it behind the scenes.
She said: “Absolutely buzzing after the win; I think we all deserved it with the hard work we have been putting in over the past few weeks.
“Hopefully the first of many wins this year!”
Four minutes is all it took for Killeen to score after she was brought on for the second-half.
She said: “I am just glad to be back and glad I could be on the scoresheet in the first game of the year.
“I hope I can keep improving each week and help the team in any way I can.”
Returning player Eva McDonald scored twice in just nine minutes to complete the rout and Killeen was full of praise for her new teammate.
“Yeah I was buzzing for them all, especially Eva, as she definitely deserved her goals,” she shared.
Shields travel to Harrogate Town AFC Women next hoping to continue the good run of form - full match details will be shared on our social media channels - @SSFCWomen on Twitter/X and @southshieldswomenfc on Instagram.

Stumbled upon this after it was shared in a Farnborough gaming forum during a late Tuesday scroll. What made me stay was a balanced discussion about Nitrobet Casino in UK paired with honest observations on error message positioning and inline validation feedback timing for UK players. No flashy claims about perfect form experiences or friction-free submissions. The straightforward tone was a breath of fresh air. When I finished, I felt at ease, like I'd found actual community feedback.
