Sophie Sutton joins SSFC Women

Sophie Sutton has joined South Shields Women to become the club's second summer signing.

The Sunderland AFC Women PGA midfielder has welcomed the chance to join Alex Miller’s side ahead of the upcoming NERWFL Premier Division season.

She has experience in this division, having lifted the title with Chester-le-Street Town Ladies in the 2024/25 season.

Sutton was a team-mate of new arrival Milly Cairns at Sunderland AFC Women U23s, who secured treble-winning success the season before.

She said following her arrival: “I can’t wait to get started and help the club be very competitive in the league.” 

Miller added: ”We are delighted to announce the signing of Sophie Sutton. 

“An experienced midfielder, Sophie reads the game well, is a superb passer of the ball and has the ability to control the tempo of the game while remaining composed under pressure. 

“She makes everything look effortless and will be one to watch in our 26/27 squad.”
