Young Mariners set for Morpeth test

The young Mariners are back in National League Under-19 Alliance action on Wednesday as they host Morpeth Town at Washington Hub in a 1.30pm kick-off.

Shields will be hoping to continue their rich vein of form in the league this season, and a win against Morpeth would see the lads remain top of the pile.

The Mariners last played in the competition two weeks ago, running out 4-2 winners against Hemsworth Miners Welfare, and they have now won 10 league games on the bounce.

The two sides previously met less than two months ago, when Shields recorded a 4-1 victory at Craik Park.

The visitors come to Washington Hub off the back of two wins, having defeated fellow North East side Gateshead 4-2 and West Yorkshire outfit Liversedge 3-2 last Wednesday.

Morpeth sit mid-table in Division I of the Under-19 National League Alliance, and a win could see them climb to seventh.

The young Mariners could go as many as eight points clear of second placed Newcastle Benfield on Wednesday, and with three games already in hand, things are looking good for the lads.
