TOM WATSON SIGNS FOR THE MARINERS

South Shields FC are delighted to announce the signing of promising young goalkeeper Tom Watson, who joins on loan from Wigan Athletic.

A product of Wigan’s pre-academy system, Tom signed with the Latics as an Under-9 and has developed through the ranks into a commanding and confident presence between the posts.

Known for his infectious character and superb distribution from the back, the highly rated shot-stopper brings both energy and composure.

Tom already has senior football experience under his belt, having featured for Pilkington FC in the North West Counties League during a work experience spell.

He also produced a standout performance on one of the biggest stages of his youth career — helping Wigan Athletic U18s to a 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at The Valley, a result that crowned Kieran Driscoll’s side as Professional Development League National Champions.

Since the start of the 2021/22 campaign, Tom established himself as a mainstay in Wigan’s U18 starting XI and earned a growing reputation for his sharp reflexes and exceptional ability to save penalties.

Tom will wear the number 20 for South Shields FC.
