Milly Cairns becomes SSFC Women's first summer signing

Milly Cairns has become South Shields Women’s first summer signing ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The young centre midfielder, who most recently played for Norton Ladies, has linked up with Alex Miller’s side as the lasses gear up for the new NERWFL Premier Division campaign.

Cairns made 22 appearances for Norton last season, grabbing one goal en route to a record high sixth place finish in the FAWNL Division One North.

She also played a crucial role in Sunderland AFC Women’s U23s treble-winning campaign in 2023/24, when they lifted the NERWFL Northern Division, the NERWFL League Cup, as well as the DCFA Women’s Cup.

Now she is looking forward to a new challenge with the Mariners.

Upon signing for the club, Cairns said: "I'm delighted to have signed for South Shields.

"I'm looking forward to playing my part in the team and hopefully we can be very competitive in the league."

Miller added: “We are delighted to kick off our summer recruitment with the signing of Milly Cairns.

“Coming in with Tier 4 experience, Milly is a real technician in the middle of the park, bringing quality on the ball, composure, and a goal threat that makes her a brilliant addition to our 26/27 squad.”

Welcome to Shields, Milly!
