SSFC Women meet Sunderland West End at Ford Hub

South Shields Women face Sunderland West End Ladies for the first time this season at Ford Hub this Sunday (2pm kick-off).

The Mariners will be looking to bounce back after last weekend’s narrow defeat against Bradford City, and also to catch up with the leading pack in the NERWFL Premier Division.

West End sit five points ahead of Shields having played the same number of games, meaning a win would go a long way in achieving that.

This is the first of two visits against West End in March, with the away tie to be played on March 31st.

Alex’s thoughts

Assistant head coach Alex Miller says it’s always a competitive clash when the two sides meet.

Last season saw each side triumph over the other in a big way - the Mariners won 5-1 away from home while the visitors won 3-1 at home.

“It’s always a really exciting game against West End,” she said.

“I think sometimes we see some of our best football [against them]. It’s not always pretty but it’s definitely an entertaining watch and I know the lasses will be well up for it.

“I know West End will be as well but we’re just going to focus on ourselves, working hard, getting that intensity and that passion to shine through and get them back to where we should be and where we’d normally be performing.”
