South Shields Women visit Thornaby FC Women for the first time this season on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
The lasses are hoping to shake off last week’s DCFA Women’s Challenge Cup exit with a strong performance against NERWFL Premier Division title-contenders Thornaby.
This weekend’s hosts sit second in the division, with a remarkable 25 points picked up from their first 10 games - Shields find themselves in fifth place having recorded 17 points over the same period.
Thornaby are on a hot streak, having won 9-0 away to Brunsmeer Athletic Women a fortnight ago, while they brushed aside league leaders Bradford City AFC Women 4-1 at home the week before.
Over the past four league games, no teams have picked up more points than the Blues (12) or the Mariners (10), so it is shaping up to be a very exciting league clash.

Alex and Ryan’s thoughts
We caught up with First Team Co-Head Coach Alex Miller and Reserve Team Head Coach Ryan Young ahead of Sunday’s games - watch their previews here.
Alena’s thoughts
Alena Miller spoke to us in the run-up to this weekend’s visit to Thornaby; here’s what she said.
“Despite the few knocks we took last weekend, I think we’re all excited for the challenge Sunday will bring.
“Thornaby have done well in the league and we’ve been on a decent run over these past few games, so it should be a good opportunity to compete and get after it!”

Reserve Team
The Reserve Team suffered heartbreak last time out, with a 2-1 defeat away to Stockton Town Reserves.
Up next is a home game against Darlington RA Women in the DCFA Women's First Division.
Kick-off at Harton Welfare (NE34 0NA) is at 2pm this Sunday, February 22nd.
Ellie Burns said: “I think we were really unlucky to lose the last game because there were a lot of positives in how we played, and on another day the result could’ve gone our way.
“It showed that we’re competing well and improving.
“Going into this game, I’m feeling excited and motivated to put that right and get a win under us.
“The main thing is to keep working hard and keep progressing as a team and build on the good things we’ve been doing.”
