SSFC Women kick-off league season with Moors visit

South Shields Women’s league campaign gets underway this Sunday with an away trip to Spennymoor Town Ladies (2pm kick-off).

The rest of the NERWFL Premier Division played their first game last week, but with the Mariners out of action, the lasses hosted Park View AFC Women in a pre-season friendly instead.

Shields visit The Brewery Field hoping to get their season off to the dream start.

The two teams met on the opening day last season; Eve Gatens and Annece Legg were among the goalscorers in a 4-1 win at Harton Welfare.

She said: “I think the girls are all looking forward to the first game of the season.

“We’ve been working hard in training recently, putting the aspects we’ve been working on into the game.

“Also, going against Spennymoor is always a good game so I’m looking forward to it!”
