Miller reflective after SSFC Women's defeat vs Alnwick Town

South Shields Women Head Coach Alex Miller was in a reflective mood following her side's 4-1 defeat to Alnwick Town Ladies in the NERWFL Premier Division on Sunday.

The lasses battled well throughout the first-half, but they fell short after the restart as the visitors piled the pressure on and scored three times before the 60th minute.

Madison Bouggess brought one back 14 minutes later, but their three-goal cushion was restored with three minutes to spare.

“Tough result today, falling to a 1-4 defeat, but it truly was a game of two halves," she said.

“We were excellent in the first-half - dominating possession, creating multiple chances, and showing real intent going forward.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert those opportunities, and that proved costly.

“Alnwick came out strong after the break and capitalised on key moments. Credit to them for that.

“We’re navigating a challenging period with a number of injuries during a demanding stretch of the season, but the character of this group was clear.

“Even when under pressure, the players kept working, competing, and showing resilience.

“Plenty of positives to build on, along with clear areas for development.

“We keep moving forward together.”

Up next is a home game against Ossett United Women, with full match details to be confirmed in the coming days.
