May: "Things have definitely started to come together" for SSFC Women

ree

Natalie May has admitted that “things have definitely started to come together” for South Shields Women recently.

The long-serving midfielder spoke to us following wins in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup against Alnwick Town Ladies and a NERWFL Premier Division victory against Wallsend BC Women.

There is a positive feeling among the squad as they continue another week of work.

“Over the last few weeks, things have definitely started to come together,” she said.

“I think, as a group, we’ve grown in confidence with each game.

“We’ve worked hard on the training ground, and you can see that starting to show in our performances.

“The last couple of games have been really positive, not just in terms of results, but the way we’ve played.

“Everyone’s buying into the same ideas, and there’s a good feeling around the team at the moment.”

The new cohort of South Shields FC Women’s International Academy players have made their mark on both the First Team and the Reserve Team, with a host of fresh faces now part of the group.

May suggested that things are on the right track and the new players have been made to feel at home which has made the transition smoother.

She continued: “The new lasses have settled in really well.

“It’s always a bit of an adjustment when you bring in fresh faces, especially from different backgrounds, but I believe the team have adapted very well to this.

“The players that have come in have shown great energy and attitude.

“You can see the quality they bring.

“Technically they’re very good, and they’ve adapted quickly to the pace and style of play here.

“It’s given the whole squad a bit of a boost, and there’s healthy competition for places, which is always a good thing.”

The First Team have a three-hour trip to Fleetwood Town Wrens to look forward to this Sunday, after the tie was rescheduled over the weekend.

The winner will face AFC Fylde Women at home in the First Round Proper on Sunday, October 26th, which could prove to be a motivator for both teams later in the week.

“We’re all really looking forward to the FA Cup game on Sunday,” she finished.

“It’s our first time coming up against Fleetwood, so we’re not entirely sure what to expect from them, but the focus is very much on ourselves.

“We’ve been in good form recently, and if we stick to what we’ve been doing well and play with confidence, we’ll give ourselves a great chance.

“It’s an exciting challenge and one we’re ready for.”

Kick-off at Poolfoot Farm (FY5 4HX) this Sunday, October 12th is at 2pm - free entry.
