We caught up with South Shields Women’s Natalie May to reflect on the first-half of the season - read what she had to say about various topics below!
Q: When you look back to how things have gone so far, what are your main feelings and emotions?
“When I look back at the first part of the season, I feel a real sense of pride mixed with determination.
“We’ve had some really strong performances and shown what we’re capable of, especially when we’re playing with confidence and intensity.
“At the same time, there’s a feeling that we still have more to give.
“We’re growing as a squad, we’re learning a lot from each game, and I think those foundations will set us up well for the second half of the season.
“Overall, I’m encouraged and excited for what’s still to come."
Q: We’ve found success in cup competitions so far; how have you seen things on that front?
“I’m really pleased with how we’ve performed in the cup competitions.
“Those runs show our potential and the strength we have across the squad.
“Reaching good stages consistently isn’t easy, and it reflects the hard work everyone’s putting in, from the players to the coaching staff.
“Getting to the 1st Round of the FA Cup again was a big moment and something we’re proud of."
Q: Is winning a trophy an ambition of yours going into 2026?
“Winning a trophy is absolutely an ambition going into 2026.
“When you get this close in multiple competitions, it gives you that extra drive to push on and finish the job. I definitely believe we have what it takes."
Q: League form has been more mixed; what lessons have you taken from those games?
“League form has had its ups and downs, but I think we’ve shown resilience.
“Even in games where things haven’t gone our way, we’ve stayed together and kept competing.
“It’s another tough league this season, however, we know what we are also capable of, we’ve learned the importance of consistency, starting games strongly, managing key moments better, and making sure we take our chances.
“With the games in hand, we know we’re still in a good position, and if we build on what we’ve learned so far, I’m confident we can put together a strong run and move up the table."
Q: Do you think the Christmas break has come at a good time for you and the team?
“I think the break has come at a good time.
“It’s been a busy first half of the season, both physically and mentally, so having a chance to rest, reset, and come back refreshed will do us all good.
“It also gives us time to refocus ahead of some big games coming up in the new year."
Q: Any final words you’d like to say to the fans who have given their support each week?
“To the fans, I just want to say thank you.
“Your support means so much to us, home, away, rain or shine.
“You’ve helped carry us through tough moments and celebrated the highs with us.
“We can’t wait to see you all again in the new year.
“Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy 2026!”
