This article was published in The Mariner, South Shields FC's matchday programme, ahead of the men's pre-season friendlies against Shildon AFC, Carlisle United, Consett AFC and Newcastle United U21s.

South Shields Women’s Natalie May “can’t wait to get back out there” for pre-season.

The lasses’ pre-season schedule gets underway in early August ahead of another testing NERWFL Premier Division campaign - needless to say, May is looking forward to it.

“The summer’s been great, a good chance to recharge both physically and mentally,” she reflected.

“I’ve spent some quality time with family, had a break away on a brilliant holiday and now I’m feeling fresh and ready to go again.”

The list of friendlies include a visit to newly-promoted FAWNL Division One North outfit Chester-le-Street Town Ladies and a home game against Middlesbrough FC Women U23s.

“Massively excited,” she said, when asked about how she felt about getting stuck in again.

“Pre-season is always tough, but it’s a great opportunity to get sharp, build chemistry with the squad, and lay down a strong foundation for the season ahead.

“I’ve missed being out on the pitch with the lasses, I can’t wait to get back out there and get going again.”

May has a few personal ambitions in mind for herself and the team, which she wanted to relay.

“Personally, I want to push myself to be as consistent as possible and contribute in every way I can - whether that’s goals, assists, or just leading by example,” she added.

“As a team, we want to be competing at the top end, challenging for promotion, getting as far as we can in the cup games and making sure we give everything each week.

“We’ve got big goals and a determined squad to chase them.”

Nothing would be possible without the backing of the fans and that is a message she reiterated with a final ‘thank you’ message.

“Just a massive thank you for your continued support,” May finished.

“You make a huge difference every week, home and away.

“We’re going to give everything for the badge this season, and with your backing, we can achieve something special together.

“Let’s make it a season to remember!”

Shields kick off their pre-season programme this Sunday with an away game against Chester-le-Street Town Ladies at Moor Park (DH2 3BX) for a 2pm kick-off. Full details will be shared later this week.

Best way to check Tokyo trade fairs? I’m heading to Tokyo next spring and want to know which major trade fairs might be worth attending.
