MATCH REPORT: SOUTH SHIELDS 1-1 KING'S LYNN TOWN

In-form Cedwyn Scott fires again for South Shields in 1-1 King's Lynn Town clash

Two minutes had passed in the tie and the Mariners were already one goal to the good thanks to an in-form Scott’s rifling effort.

The second goal of the afternoon came early into the second-half with the away side claiming their equaliser through Goal Omotayo’s close-range header.

South Shields came into Saturday’s league fixture with a fire to them, having defeated AFC Fylde away from home 4-2 after two previous defeats.

The hosts came up against a King's Lynn Town side who sat 15th in the Enterprise National League North and who had won their previous outing against Leamington.

The Mariners too, were starting once more, with top goal-scorer Blackett on the bench and would be relying on goals from a forward line of Sean McGurk, Dan Dodds and Scott.

Shields' began emphatically, scoring with their first chance of the game in the 2nd minute through Scott – the striker was found through on-goal cleverly by McGurk – Scott took the ball in his stride and rifled it into the bottom left corner.

Eleven minutes later, the Mariners created their second chance of the game — Dodds picked up a fizzing cross from McGurk before laying it back into Cain Sykes who found Oliver Bainbridge with a pin-point cross, however the defenders header was comfortably saved.

With a quarter of the 90 gone, McGurk crafted another opportunity for the league leaders, once again, it was another fizzed ball into the box that was just a few inches away from a sliding Dodds.

With five minutes to go in the first-half, Will Jenkins found himself with a chance to strike from distance.

Todd Alcock played the ball into the midfielder who, 15 yards from goal, curled an effort at goal, however the ball just raised over the bar.

The second-half was not the best of starts for Watson’s side as Omotayo headed in from close range after a miscued clearance a minute into the second-half.

Chances were being created all the way through the second-half by the league leaders, however Shields struggled to create that clear-cut chance to regain their lead.

With ten minutes to play Samuel Bragg made a huge call, when Blackett seemed to have been brought down in the box, however a goal kick was given.
