Match Report: South Shields 0-5 Sunderland

Regis Le Bris' first game in charge of Sunderland ends in a 5-0 victory at the 1st Cloud Arena against South Shields.

Goals from Patrick Roberts, Trai Hume, Chris Rigg, Eliezer Mayenda and Adil Aouchiche in the first half handed the Black Cats victory.

South Shields welcomed their North East neighbours for the second successive pre-season in front of a bumper 3,800 crowd.

Elliott Dickman looked to give his side a fair run out, with a handful of young players and International Academy players getting minutes.

An audacious effort from Romaine Mundle smacked the crossbar inside the opening minute of the match before Roberts broke the deadlock in the third minute. 

Chris Rigg's low cross was cut out before Roberts pounced on the rebound to slot home.

Hume then doubled Sunderland's lead in the ninth minute when his deflected strike looped over Myles Boney in the Shields net.

Rigg added another on 30 minutes, getting on the end of a Mayenda cross.

The Spaniard was then fouled in the area three minutes later, resulting in a penalty that he took and calmly slotted past Boney.

Sunderland would add a fifth before half-time as Aouchiche was first to Mayenda's shot coming off the post.

Sunderland continued to dominate possession throughout the second 45, but no goals were seen in the second period, as Shields fielded a completely fresh side.

Ashton Mee was named Man of the Match in his first game as a South Shields player.
