South Shields International Academy defeated Scarborough Football Scholarship 5-0 Monday Afternoon, in a “dominant” performance in the National Youth Football League U23 North Premier Division.
David Mighten controlled and steadied the back line, picking up his fifth league shutout of the season, while Bailey Rhoades led the attack with a screamer en route to a brace.
Adam Shaw, Head of the International Academy at South Shields, said: “David [Mighten] is really loud, really vocal and has a great picture of what we should look like from the back.
“He’s been a fantastic goalkeeper for uu and has done really well.
“Hopefully, he continues to help drive the standards across the pitch.”
Timothy Barney, one of the newest signings for the academy, said: “It was a good team performance and every guy stepped up, including those on the bench.
“I think it is easy to jump into a team where there is quality all over the pitch as it forces you to step up your level.
“I’ve adapted well and learned a lot from the month and a half I’ve been here.
Shaw was extremely pleased with the team’s overall performance and confidence which ranged from the starting 11 to the bench.
He said: “There was a lot of character and a lot of heart.
"We battled well, won the first balls and dominated.
“Overall, a fantastic result.”
David Mighten, who was instrumental in maintaining retro bowl the defensive line, achieved his fifth league shutout of the season. Bailey Rhoades spearheaded the offense with a standout performance, scoring twice.
