South Shields step up their preparations for life in Vanarama National League North with a home pre-season fixture against Harrogate Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Just two weeks remain until the start of the league campaign and Shields have friendlies against Harrogate, Boldon CA and Gateshead to come before that date.
Harrogate have beaten Darlington and been defeated by Lincoln City so far in pre-season.
The League Two side are managed by Simon Weaver and are preparing for their league opener against Doncaster Rovers on August 5th.
Julio's thoughts
Shields were beaten 2-1 by Whitby Town on Tuesday and now return to home soil for the test against Harrogate.
Manager Julio Arca is expecting another significant step-up in levels.
He said: "It's going to be another competitive game.
"I'm sure Harrogate will move the ball around quickly and will be physical, but these are the sort of games you need in order to improve.
"It will provide us with another different challenge and it's one we're looking forward to."
Arca added: "We need to improve and the players know that.
"It's about learning from the games we've had so far. We're learning a lot and hopefully when the season starts, we'll be ready for it."
Team news
Shields remain without Michael Woods and Luke James, who are hoping to be available for the Mariners' final pre-season friendly, against Gateshead.
They are hoping to welcome back Dillon Morse, Dylan Mottley-Henry and Mackenzie Heaney.
