South Shields kick off their pre-season campaign by hosting Championship side Sunderland at the 1st Cloud Arena in front of a sold-out crowd.
The fixture is opposition manager Regis Le Bris’s first game in charge of the Black Cats.
Mariners boss Elliott Dickman faces the Club he spent two decades at as an Academy coach, for the first time in senior football.
The two sides met back in July of last year, with the visitors winning 4-3 thanks to a late winner from Chris Rigg.
Elliott’s thoughts
Dickman has dubbed the game ‘exciting’ and will use the fixture as a platform to give some new faces a chance.
“We are all really excited and looking forward to our first pre season friendly against Sunderland A.F.C.
“The experience of playing a team like Sunderland at a packed 1st Cloud Arena is an opportunity that we as a Club should really enjoy.
“We know our brilliant supporters will be fully behind the players, as usual, come kick-off tomorrow.
We, as players and staff, are really proud and thankful for all the work that goes into preparing a game like this.
“Without the incredible hard work and dedication from so many at our Club, this game would not happen, so a huge thank you to them.
“We look forward to seeing some familiar faces and the start of our games programme for the new season ahead.”
Team news
Shields look to start pre-season off positively with a mixed squad of senior players, new signings and Academy players.
The Mariners will also field some players from the SSFC International Academy – allowing some of their young and promising players to work with the First Team and play against one of England’s biggest Clubs.
Dillon Morse and Martin Smith remain out of the playing squad.
Information for supporters
Tickets for the match are sold out and there will be no further sales on the day.
