Match Preview: South Shields v Hartlepool United

South Shields take on Hartlepool United in their second pre-season fixture at the 1st Cloud Arena.

After a 5-0 loss in the opening pre-season game to Sunderland, Shields welcome Hartlepool to the 1st Cloud Arena.

Elliott Dickman's side varied in experience and age as many new faces donned the claret and blue for the first time.

Among those newcomers were players from the SSFC International Academy - Yeonhyuk Kwak, Jaiden Odle and Ryan Dougherty.

Pools beat West Auckland Town 3-0 away in their first pre-season fixture.

Pools boss Darren Sarll looks to improve on last season's 12th-place finish under Kevin Phillips.

Elliott's thoughts

Mariners manager Elliott Dickman looks to build upon Sunderland and approach another big test positively.

"We're looking forward to the game, everyone has trained well, and we've had a good week as a group.

"It's all about focusing on the Hereford game, I think that's the main message and ultimately we're working hard to be able to do that.

"By having 45 [minutes] for all of the players last week, it's put us in a really good position to have an excellent week which we will build on.

"It's going to be a difficult game, but it's a fantastic opportunity for ourselves as a Football Club and as a team to compete against a team which is at a higher level than us."
