Match Preview: South Shields FC V Spennymoor Town FC

We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and enjoy your day spent with your loved ones!

Ian Watson and his squad will be looking to finish 2025 strong, currently sitting top of the Enterprise National League North, with two local derbys still to play. First up is Spennymoor Town FC, who travel to the 1st Cloud Arena this Friday to face the Mariners.

The Mariners have put together two strong wins, beating Phil Brown's Peterborough Sports after two defeats in a row to Kidderminster Harriers and Macclesfield. It was important to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, after beating Sports, South Shields travelled to Chester to play Calum McIntyre's Chester FC, the first reverse fixture of the season, beating them 3-1 thanks to goals from Blackett, Jenkins, and Scott, after going a goal down early in the second half.

Opposition

This Boxing Day, we face Spennymoor Town FC, who currently sit 8th in the Enterprise National League North, having won 9 of their 22 played, drawing 6, and losing 6.

Managed by Graeme Lee, The Moors are currently 4 unbeaten, taking 6 points from a possible 12, drawing with Chorley, Buxton, and Oxford City, and beating Marine 2-0 away from home.

The Moors talisman is Glen Taylor, who has netted 13 times this season, most recently against Buxton FC, where he and Robert Ramshaw secured the draw for Spennymoor, another one to watch out for, with Ramshaw scoring 7 goals this season.

There is also the possibility of welcoming back a familiar face, as Mackenzie Heaney, who signed for Spennymoor Town in the summer of 2025, having spent 3 seasons with the Mariners. Mackenzie was recently selected for a spot in the league's Team of the Week.

Really enjoyed this article — Retro Bowl 26 feels like a smart evolution of the series, and you did a great job explaining what makes it stand out for both new and returning players.
