Tomorrow night we travel to the Mounting Systems Stadium to take on Jonathan Greening’s Seadogs in a midweek clash which could see the Mariners go nine points clear of AFC Fylde.
Ian Watson’s men are looking to pick up their 21st win of the campaign from 30 games, so too, a win on Tuesday night would mean Shields secure the league double against Scarborough.
Boro’ currently occupy 8th in the Enterprise National League North, with teams above them such as Macclesfield, Darlington and Radcliffe all in touching distance; therefore, a win for the hosts could really aid them in their hopes of reaching the play-offs.
Greening will have an active expectation on his forward line, however, specifically, Boro’s top scorer, Stephen Walker. Walker has bagged 12 in the league thus far, with three of those coming in his last three outings. Home fans the,n will be hoping that Walker is the one to cause an upset and push the hosts further up the league for a chance in the play-offs.
The reverse fixture took place in the middle of October last year, one which was totally dominated by Watson’s Mariners. Dan Ward put the cherry on top of a fantastic performance by the hosts in the 66th minute, making it 4-0.
The travelling Mariners will look to their in-form superstar Cedwyn Scott as one of their many paths to victory. In Shields’ last outing, Scott picked up a second-half brace, which led the Mariners to a 3-1 triumph at the MGroup stadium against Oxford City.
Manager Watson will hope that his experienced and firing centre-forward can keep the goals flowing and inspire yet another away victory.
