MATCH PREVIEW: MACCLESFIELD (H)

Tomorrow night sees Ian Watson’s Mariners welcome John Rooney’s Macclesfield to the 1st Cloud Arena, a clash which could see the hosts leapfrog AFC Fylde to the top spot in the Enterprise National League North.

The hosts go into the midweek clash fresh off the back of a five-star away performance against Radcliffe FC and hope to take this goalscoring form and confidence into the clash with the Silkmen.

Comparatively, the visitors come into the tie, too, off the back of a win, one for Macclesfield, which saw them claim play-off football and the potential of being a National League side next season.

The two teams have clashed heads twice this season, with the visitors coming out on top in both meetings, most recently in an FA Trophy tie at the 1st Cloud Arena and in their first league meeting of the season back in October.

One-to-watch

Although the Mariners come into the game confident, one player Watson’s men should keep their eye on is Paul Dawson. Dawson has netted four times in his last four appearances for the club and is currently the Silkmen’s top scorer.

On the other hand, the Mariners seem to have goal scorers at every position on the field - having four separate goal scorers in their 5-2 demolition of Radcliffe on Saturday.

If, however, the hosts are to pick up their first win over Macclesfield this season, their key to victory could come through their star boy Will Jenkins.

Saturday not only saw Jenkins pick up his 150th appearance for the club, however the midfielder also marked the occasion with a goal and an assist.

Jenkins will then be looking to keep his own momentum and claim his 9th league goal of the season on Tuesday night.
