Match Preview: Alfreton Town v South Shields

The Mariners come off a 5-0 win to face Alfreton Town in the initially postponed fixture.

Last time out Elliott Dickman’s side played their third away fixture in a row against lowly Gloucester City.

Although a win was expected the scoreline still turned a few heads as Shields came out 5-0 winners after a dominant performance from start to finish.

Newcastle United loanee Dylan Stephenson scored his first goals for the club on Saturday with his goals coming in the 37th and 94th minutes. Predictably, Paul Blackett also added a goal to his tally for the season taking him up to 21 goals for the campaign with 14 games left to go.

Alfreton Town haven’t been in the best of form recently but their 2-0 win over Darlington on Saturday will certainly be a confidence booster as they welcome Shields on Tuesday night. Including Saturday’s victory, they have 2 wins out of five.

The original date for this fixture was the 20th of January, but due to weather conditions, it has been postponed until now. Since then, South Shields have won 3 matches and accumulated a total of 10 points out of a possible 15.

Elliots thoughts

Although the scoreline may suggest otherwise, Elliot Dickman expressed his discontent with the opening 20 minutes of the team’s last fixture against Gloucester “We started a little bit slow, even with the chances we created.”.

Since he was appointed interim manager, Dickman has said many times about emphasizing team performance over everything else and this was touched upon after the Gloucester victory. Therefore, he will be hoping for a similar team performance against Alfreton on Tuesday night.

Team news

Jordan Hunter has rejoined the Mariners on loan from Gateshead and featured in the 5-0 win on Saturday.
