Mariners celebrate double win at Club Awards

South Shields FC were among the winners at the 2023 Club Awards in Leicester.

At a ceremony held at Athena Leicester, the Mariners were recognised as Football Club of the Year and Social Media Club of the Year.

The event was hosted by legendary BBC broadcaster John Inverdale, and representatives from across the club sector were present.

Shields were a finalist in the Innovative Club of the Year, Football Club of the Year and Social Media Club of the Year categories.

And they picked up two of those prizes, coming out on top as Football Club of the Year and Social Media Club of the Year, despite stiff competition from clubs across the country.

The Football Club of the Year award recognised Shields' progress on and off the pitch in 2023, from the men's team's promotion to Vanarama National League North to the launch of the International Academy in partnership with the University of Sunderland, record merchandise sales and successful innovations, including the online relaunch of the club's Lucky 4 Lotto game.

The Social Media Club of the Year award celebrated the Mariners' prominence across multiple social media channels, with a particular focus on the consistency of posts and the light which has been shone on the club thanks to efforts on social media.

The club picked up a third prize on the night, recognised alongside a host of other organisations to celebrate being in existence for more than 100 years.
