We are delighted to announce the signing of young forward Lennon Wheeldon on loan from Derby County
The highly rated 20-year-old striker joins the Mariners after progressing through Derby’s academy ranks, where he made a strong impression across the Under-18s and Under-21s setups.
Wheeldon joined Derby County as an Under-16 from Notts County and quickly rose through the ranks, earning his senior debut for the Rams in the EFL Trophy against Wolves Under-21s in November 2023.
Over the 2024/25 campaign, he became a regular feature for Derby’s Under-21s, scoring nine goals across all competitions — including six in Premier League 2 and three in the Premier League Cup.
He also gained valuable first-team experience with a short loan spell at Boston United in the National League and made his Championship debut in April 2025, coming off the bench in a 1-0 defeat to Swansea City.
His performances at youth level also earned him a call-up to the England Under-19 squad earlier in the season.
Ian Watson is feeling really positive about adding Lennon to his side,
'We’re really pleased to bring Lennon into the club. He’s an exciting young player and highly thought of. He gives us a different option and the fans will love his energy.'
Lennon will wear the number 18.
