Michael Nelson joins as 16-19's Academy Coach.

We are delighted to welcome Michael Nelson to South Shields FC, who joins as a 16-19's Academy Coach.

Nelson brings a wealth of experience to the coaching staff following a playing career spanning more than 700 senior appearances.

The former central defender represented clubs including Bury, Hartlepool United, Norwich City, Scunthorpe United, Kilmarnock, Bradford City, Hibernian, Cambridge United, Barnet, Chesterfield, Gateshead, and Blyth Spartans, earning promotions, individual honours, and captaining several sides along the way.

Since moving into coaching, Nelson has built an impressive CV, holding roles as player-coach, assistant manager, head coach, and manager. His experience includes coaching positions at Barnet, Chesterfield, and Gateshead, assistant manager roles at Stevenage and Hartlepool United, interim manager spells at Hartlepool United and Scunthorpe United, and permanent managerial roles with Blyth Spartans.

Most recently, he has combined his role as Football Academy Manager at Park View Academy of Sport with coaching duties at Chester-Le-Street United.

Combining decades of experience across every level of the game with proven leadership and coaching expertise, Nelson's knowledge, professionalism, and player development background make him an ideal addition to the club's academy.
