Khanya Leshabela signs for South Shields

We are delighted to welcome Khanya Leshabela to South Shields FC, who joins us as our fourth summer signing.

The South African joins Mike Williamson’s men, bringing nothing short of exquisite and proven quality to the Mariners' midfield.

In addition to this, the 26-year-old is no stranger to finding the back of the net. A showcase of his goal-scoring ability was notably seen when he picked up a stunning brace within 10 minutes against Curzon Ashton in January last season.

Leshabela started out his footballing career with former Premier League Champions, Leicester City.

After graduating through the Foxes’ academy he signed a professional contract with the club and was eventually given his Premier League debut under manager Brendan Rodgers, gracing the field as a substitute in an emphatic 5-0 win.

From there on, Leshabela had spells on loan with Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra.

The midfielder then made his return to his home country, signing for Cape Town City.

Leshabela’s return to South Africa however was short-lived, as just six months into his return he came back to England signing for National League South side Enfield Town.

In this period, Leshabela gained yet more invaluable experience at Spalding United, Bedford Town and Telford United.

When asked about beginning life as a Mariner Leshabela said:

"I'm delighted to finally be here. I've met pretty much everyone already and they've all been really welcoming. I'm just happy to be here and can't wait to get the season started."

"There's a clear strategy and philosophy in the way the team wants to play, and I feel like I can fit right into it."

"Every club I've been at has taught me something, and I've tried to take everything I've learned throughout my journey and implement it into my game."

"I enjoy having the ball, driving forward with it, and combining with my team-mates. I just want to help the team."

Welcome to the Mariners, Khanya!
