Hill "elated" after netting first brace for SSFC Women

Tianna Hill says that she feels “elated” after netting her first brace for South Shields Women.

The South Shields FC Women’s International Academy forward scored in the ninth minute to put the lasses ahead in their Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie against Fleetwood Town Wrens on Sunday.

She also netted in the 79th minute and assisted Annece Legg’s second goal in the 91st minute, to cap off a fine performance in Lancashire.

“I feel elated!” she exclaimed.

“Thought the team put in a great shift.

“It took a lot of grit and determination to get through the game, so I’m happy that we were able to get the job done and move onto the next round.”

What a moment it was - Hill was all smiles as she described what scoring her first two goals for the First Team meant to her.

She continued: “After scoring the first one, I felt a sense of relief; I’d been out for a week with a few knocks, so getting back on the field and being able to contribute to the win settled any nerves.

“Adding another to the scoresheet filled me with joy.

"It felt like I’m starting to find my stride again.”

In the post-match interview, it was suggested that some passages of play on show were similar to those seen on the training field, and seeing things pay off during the game was so pleasing for Hill to see.

“Certainly,” she agreed.

“This past week, we displayed some great passages of play in training.

“The more we practice, the stronger our chemistry gets - I think that’s a big reason why we were able to create so many chances and find success throughout the game.”

After the weekend’s long journey - a six hour round trip in fact - Hill is looking forward to some games closer to home in the coming weeks, starting with this Sunday’s DCFA Women’s Cup match against Washington FC Women.

“Absolutely!” she said, when asked whether she was looking forward to that prospect.

“I think this upcoming home game will give the team a chance to recharge a bit after all the travel and the exhaustion that comes with it.

“It’s always exciting to play at your own ground in front of supporters, so I’m hoping that gives us an extra push to go out and perform well.”
