SSFC Women return to Downhill Hub to host Alnwick Town

South Shields Women return to Downhill Hub this Sunday for their penultimate home game in the NERWFL Premier Division against Alnwick Town Ladies (2:30pm kick-off).

The lasses have just three games to contend with before the league season is complete, and first up are an Alnwick Town side where entertainment has certainly been provided thus far.

In the previous two meetings, the Mariners have equalised late on - in the 93rd minute back in September, and then in the 89th minute a month ago.

Three points for the visitors could help them secure a hold onto third place, while for Shields a win is a must if they are to challenge the top five spots in their remaining fixtures.

The Mariners lost 4-0 to title-hunting Thornaby FC Women last time out, and Alnwick defeated Ossett United Women - Shields’ opponents next week - 3-1 most recently.

Last time we met

Relive the key moments from our last meeting, a 2-2 draw at a very windy Greensfield.

Alex and Ryan’s thoughts

We caught up with First Team Head Coach Alex Miller, as well as Reserve Team Head Coach Ryan Young, ahead of this weekend’s games - take a look at their previews here.

Alena’s thoughts

Alena Miller spoke to us this week in preparation for our hosting of Alnwick Town - read what she had to say here.

She said: “Last Sunday wasn’t the result we wanted, but we’ve been working hard this week, and are ready to take what we’ve learned into Sunday.

“That, along with the grit and determination that kept us in our last matches against Alnwick, should make for an exciting game!”
