Ethan Robson signs for Shields

We are delighted to announce the signing of 29-year-old midfielder Ethan Robson from Carlisle United on loan for the remainder of the season, subject to FA approval.

Joining Sunderland AFC from the age of 8, Robson worked his way up to the Men's First Team, signing his first professional deal in 2014, before leaving during the 2019-20 season, after spending 16 years at the Black Cats, making 9 league appearances.

Robson has gained experience across the EFL and National League, featuring for Blackpool, Milton Keynes Dons, Carlisle United, and Gateshead.

During his time at Blackpool, he scored his first goal for the club in the EFL Cup against Leeds United U21's, before spending the 2021–22 season on loan at MK Dons, where he made regular league appearances.

He returned to MK Dons permanently in 2022, remaining with the club for two seasons. After signing for Carlisle United in 2024, injury limited his early involvement, before he joined Gateshead on loan in March 2025, making an immediate impact by scoring during the run-in.

Welcome to the Mariners, Ethan! 👊
