Carl Mowatt joins management team as operations director

South Shields FC is delighted to welcome Carl Mowatt into its senior management team as operations director.

A hugely impressive individual with experience in a wide range of sectors, Carl has been heavily involved in the catering and hospitality side of the club since March 2022.

His new role will see his responsibilities expand to also include other commercial aspects of the club, including sponsorship, customer relationships and the organisation of non-matchday events.

Carl said: “I’m extremely proud to accept this brilliant opportunity to join my hometown club on a permanent basis.

“The club has a very exciting future both on and off the pitch, and to have the chance to be an even bigger part of it is a great honour.

“I’m hugely motivated for the challenges ahead, and look forward to helping the club expand its offerings on both matchdays and non-matchdays.

“I’ll be especially focused on ensuring 1st Cloud Arena is used on an even more regular basis on non-matchdays, and look forward to sharing some of our plans for future events soon.

“I also look forward to building and developing relationships with the club’s fantastic network of sponsors and partners, and expanding that in the short, medium and long-term future by working closely with the business community in South Tyneside and beyond.”

Carl has been a significant figure in the hospitality sector for the last 15 years through his roles as general manager at The Hedworth Hall and The Lakeside Inn.

He also has experience in the newspaper, marketing and print industries locally, nationally and globally, and worked alongside Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan in one of his ventures.

Carl is also a huge supporter of charitable causes, and has raised funds for organisations including Guide Dogs, Cancer Connections, Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK and Myeloma UK through a range of activities and challenges, including a recent 50-mile run which funded a guide dog.

South Shields FC chairman Geoff Thompson said: “I’m delighted to welcome Carl to the management team.

“In his new role he will work closely with Jonny Rose and Kayleigh Gray as well as other members of the management team as they strive to continue to develop the club further.

“I’m delighted he has agreed to take up the position and his appointment will further strengthen the board.”
